Alex Butler holds an MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business from SUNY Potsdam. Originally from Rochester, New York, Butler has owned and operated the Sabaja Craft Brewery in Prishtina, Kosovo since 2012.
Mr. Butler’s professional career began in advertising where he worked with media quality control and accounts payable at Butler/Till in Rochester. He then continued on to professional audio engineering and quality control at Masterdisk in New York City. Butler relocated to Prishtina in August 2012, where he founded the country’s first craft microbrewery with local partners and began teaching management courses at the university level in 2013.
During his time in Kosovo, Butler has been involved in an array of industries, through entrepreneurial endeavors or consulting agreements, including food service, consumer electronics, web development, journalism, academic research editing, and production of spirits. He has worked closely with leaders in Prishtina’s diplomatic, entrepreneurial, and academic circles.
Mr. Butler incorporates his diverse background into the classroom with a focus on student learning through application of theory in practical environments, and with emphasis on theories of motivation, power and influence, and buyer behavior. His personal experiences in the Kosovo market, as well as in American enterprises, are applied to facilitate student understanding of how academic lessons can be observed and practiced locally, regionally, and globally.
