On Friday, October 21 the RIT Kosovo™ (A.U.K)’s Economists’ Club together with professor Venera Demukaj, organized a lecture by the guest speaker Ms. Learta Hollaj, on the topic: “Kosovo trapped in the economic growth versus sustainable (economic) development discourse”. This lecture was part of the classes in Natural Resource Economics and Environmental Economics.
Ms. Learta is a senior researcher at the Institute for Development Policy (INDEP), which is part of the Kosovo Civil Society Consortium for Sustainable Development - KOSID. Members of KOSID are active in promoting their ideas for cleaner energy options in Kosovo. In this context, KOSID is critical towards Kosovo’s Government for pushing forward a coal agenda through their plans to build a new coal fired power plant.
During her lecture, Ms. Hollaj discussed developments in the coal industry and the energy sector, which are considered to be the backbone of Kosovo's economy. She also presented a set of arguments in favor of cleaner energy alternatives in Kosovo.
