RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) welcomes American New Yorker, Alex Butler, to its faculty. Mr. Alex Butler holds a Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Business from the State University of New York System (SUNY) Potsdam.
Mr. Butler’s professional career began in advertising where he worked with media quality control and accounts payable at Butler/Till in Rochester. He then continued on to professional audio engineering and quality control at Masterdisk in New York City.
He turned his diverse background in education, business experiences, and management skills into becoming an outstanding and creative entrepreneur when he relocated to Prishtina in August 2012. In conjunction with local partners, founded Sabaja Craft Brewery, Kosovo’s first craft microbrewery.
“We chose the name because in Illyrian times, 'Sabaja' was the word for beer. More recently, the Turkish word 'sabah', meaning 'morning', has been incorporated into the Albanian language. It is only fitting that we consider our hand-crafted ales a new dawn for beer in Kosovo,” Butler explains.
Sabaja beer is featured in many bars and restaurants throughout Prishtina, in bottles and on tap. Sabaja beer is also exported to Croatia, the first step in a plan to explore new markets in the Balkans and beyond.
Through entrepreneurial endeavors or consulting agreements, Mr. Butler has been involved in an array of industries, including food service, consumer electronics, web development, journalism, academic research editing, and production of spirits.
He also has worked closely with leaders in Prishtina’s diplomatic, entrepreneurial, and academic circles.
His personal, first-hand experiences in the Kosovo market, as well as in American enterprises, are applied at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) and serve to facilitate student understanding of how academic lessons can be observed and practiced locally, regionally, and globally. Students’ learning experiences are greatly enhanced as a result of Mr. Butler’s application of theory in practical environments, with an emphasis on a variety of important management theories, such as motivation, power, influence, and buyer behavior.
Daniel Cosentino, Vice President of Academic Affairs at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is proud to announce, “Mr. Butler is a proven entrepreneur, running a successful business in Kosovo and even exporting their products now. He will usher in an entrepreneurial spirit and new life to our Management concentration.”
We are fortunate to attract such an outstanding faculty member who has already proven himself in the classroom, as well as the international business world. We are honored to have Mr. Butler join our teaching staff here at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K).
