On February 15, 2018, the Development Office of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) with the support of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, organized a special event – Support a Student - at the Cornell Club in New York, USA. This fundraising event purposely coincided with the 10th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence. The key objective was to mark this important holiday by raising awareness and giving more attention to the factors that matter most to a newborn country, such as a high-quality American education.

Approximately 40 supporters and friends of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) from USA, Kosovo, and the UK participated in this event to show their support to the non-profit institution.

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K.) would like to thank all the supporters, donors, and participants of this event. We want to convey our deepest appreciation towards our Albanian community in the USA, who have always shown their highest support and commitment towards our great cause – qualitative American education in Kosovo. As this event included multiple levels of sponsorship, we would like to thank Richard Lukaj, our board chair, for his support and recognize him as a Platinum Sponsor for the New York - Support a Student event. Equally, we thank and express our gratitude towards the Gold Sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous. We are happy to announce that $45,000 were raised for RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) during this fundraising campaign. All contributions we receive from our donors are significant as they allow us to provide more scholarship opportunities for young, talented students from Kosovo and abroad. Given our Alumni’s success stories, enrollment at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is known to account for life changing opportunities and we want to ensure that through qualitative education, we change as many lives as possible.

The distinguished guests were welcomed by RIT Kosovo’s (A.U.K) president, Dr. Sharon Hart. After thanking them for their support and commitment to advancing higher education in Kosovo at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), Dr. Hart reassured all present that the institution she leads will continue its journey to providing a high-quality American education through its partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). “The excellence of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is undoubtedly reflected and quantified in our students’ job placement, scholarship awards after graduation and job creation,” she added. In addition, she also informed the audience on some of the key strategic priorities -- such as offering new Master’s degrees for students in the near future; and an emphasis on preparing students for the global workforce.

Following Dr. Hart, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ronald Cami, addressed the audience.  Mr. Cami expressed the importance of this cause to him. He asked the American-Albanian diaspora for their support in spreading the word that RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is an elite higher-education institution that awards degrees from an internationally accredited university. Additionally, he stated that the American-Albanian community in the USA should seriously consider sending their children to complete a semester or a year at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), where he assured they would have an incredible experience. Afterwards, another member of the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Board of Trustees and Associate Provost for International Education and Global Programs, Dr. James Myers welcomed the attendees on behalf of RIT.  He shared recent highlights, including introduction of the new president, Dr. Munson and the RIT’s incredible journey to becoming one of the top 100 research universities in the USA.

Guests were greeted also by Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Nue Nikolla who emphasized how inspired he is by both, the donor community and the achievements of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) students. Subsequently, he introduced two featured Alumni, Dafina Arifi and Ardian Hasanaj who shared their stories with the audience, as well as two current, scholarship recipient students, Agnesa Jashari and Shkelqim Lloqanaj via short videos.

Their stories highlighted all the right reasons why a current or potential donor should help with providing scholarships to financially support other talented students from this great institution. We greatly appreciate our sponsors for making events like this possible and allowing us showcase and share our success stories. Thank you for your donations and continued support of the scholarship fund at RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) – it certainly provides a transformative effect in the lives of students here.
