GENERAL INFORMATION

What does AUPP stands for?

As part of the larger Transformational Leadership Initiative, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Kosovo awarded the American University in Kosovo Foundation (A.U.K.) the task of initiating and implementing the five-year Transformational Leadership Program (TLP) Immersion and Public Service Course offered by the A.U.K. University Preparatory Program (AUPP).

What is the purpose of this program?

The purpose of AUPP Program is to enhance existing human capital and talent. Participants attending this program, who may not have had access to strong undergraduate programs, have the opportunity to meet their full potential and participate fully in educational opportunities. It will provide increased academic and economic opportunities for qualified and approved citizens of Kosovo who plan to attend universities in the United States, and to prepare them for the successful completion of their US studies. It will raise their English language proficiency levels, strengthen essential mathematical competencies, and offer adequate academic preparation focusing on providing the skills that will allow students to graduate from an American degree program. This means that TLP Immersion Courses will also give assistance in preparation for entrance examination such as TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT.

Where will this program be offered? 

All four cohorts of AUPP has been offered in seven main regions of Kosovo (Prishtina/Pristina, Peja/Peć, Prizren, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Ferizaj/Uroševac, Gjakova/Ɖakovica, Mitrovica). However, the final cohort (cohort 5) will be offered in Prishtina only.

All our training classrooms in Kosovo meet the quality criteria, safety standards and are accessible by physically challenged candidates.

What is the start date for the program?

AUPP 5th Cohort will start in Prishtina only.  

How many candidates will be trained?

Over a five-year period A.U.K will provide AUPP to 1,150 candidates.

What courses will be offered?

  • Remedial  Course (English Refresher & Mathematics Refresher) 
  • Discovery Course (General Study Skills)
  • Examination Prep. Course (TOEFL®, GRE®, GMAT®)

Are there any Admission/Placement Test prior joining the program?

Applicants will be scheduled to sit in the Admission/Placement Test (average English and Mathematics) prior joining the AUPP Program. Based on the Admission Test Results, students are classified to sit in two different course categories:

Students, who have demonstrated that they need additional preparation in English, writing and comprehensive skills, mathematics, or wish to prepare for additional undergraduate education in the United States, are scheduled to attend the Remedial Course

Students, who have demonstrated above average knowledge in English and Mathematics and are well prepared for direct admittance into an American Graduate program, are advised to attend professional courses such as TOEFL Prep. and GRE/GMAT Prep.

Discovery Course Short Outline:

  • General Study Skills
    • Learning the American Academic System starting with an orientation,
    • Study skills - read with comprehension, learn how to study, ask questions, how to take notes from lectures and written materials, test taking strategies, and library/research skills.
  • Critical Thinking
    • Analyze ideas in texts and lectures
    • How to critique and construct arguments
    • Analyze problems in complex systems
  • Presentation
    • How to plan a presentation,
    • How to make effective use of visual aids,
    • How to use body language and other signals,
    • Practice and develop presentation skills.
  • Diversity
    • Introduction of cross-cultural/multicultural/ diversity topic fields,
    • Discuss various theories regarding groups, organizations and communities,
    • Develop awareness, sensitivity and understanding of various racial, religious, sexual orientation, cultural, and ethnic group.

 

Examination Preparatory Course Short Outline:

  • TOEFL® Prep Course

    • Practice listening comprehension, language structure, written expression, and reading comprehension skills,
    • Improve the likelihood of success in advanced studies.
    • Prepare for Institutional TOEFL Exam
  • GRE® Prep Course
    • In-depth review of specific mathematical concepts,
    • Critical reading of passages,
    • Effective diagramming techniques,
    • Drawing proper inferences and deductions,
    • Synthesizing concepts and ideas,
    • Learning to recognize wrong answer types,
    • Develop an effective personal study schedule and a comprehensive understanding of the entire graduate school application process.
  • GMAT® Prep Course
    • Quantitative Section and Strategies -Problem Solving,
    • Quantitative Section and Strategies - Data Sufficiency,
    • Integrated Reasoning Section and Strategies – Integrated Reasoning,
    • Analytical Writing Section and Strategies - Analytical Writing.

What course materials will be used?

You will be equipped with student study tool kit containing materials prepared by instructor such as presentations, handouts, home and school work, and reading materials. Whereas for examination preparatory courses, you will be equipped with official materials such as:

ELIGIBILITY

Can I apply if I am not a citizen of Republic of Kosovo?

No. Only citizens of Republic of Kosovo are eligible to apply to this program. 

Are there any eligibility criteria in addition to citizenship?

Priority for admissions is given to:

  • University graduates who have already finished their bachelor studies and have obtained a diploma or transcript to prove eligibility;
  • University students in their last year of studies towards their undergraduate degree;
  • High school students in their last year of high school;
  • High school students who have already finished high school and want to continue with university education.

Note: Potential candidates coming from disadvantaged groups (women, disabilities, rural, minority, LGBT community) are strongly encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Is there a deadline for submission of applications?

Yes, the application deadline is February 25th for all participating in the 5th Cohort of the Program. The AUPP Program application is available online from February 7 to February 25, 2018!

Note: Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.  

When should I apply?

We recommend that you apply as soon as possible after the application form becomes available, as acceptances are made on a rolling basis. Application form can be found by clicking here: www.aukonline/org/aupp/apply.

Which documents are required for application?

This program requires a letter of motivation as part of the application process. Motivational letter should be short and concise (max. 500 words). Additionally, you should attach your diploma.

I have finished all my studies (high school or university) and still waiting for my diploma. Can I still apply if I do not upload the diploma?

Yes, you can. The diploma upload is OPTIONAL. 

AFTER APPLYING

After I apply, can I make changes to my application? 

No. Once you have submitted the online application changes can no longer be made.

How do I know if I am selected?

Once you complete and submit your application form, you will receive confirmation of the time and location of your Admission/Placement test. Selection will be made based on Admission/Placement test results. If selected, you will receive an email by our AUPP Program team.

If I am not selected, can I reapply for the next cohort?

No. this is the final call for the final cohort of AUPP.

How soon can I expect to hear that I am selected?

Applicants who sat for the admission exam, will be notified in the beginning of March 2018.
