Welcome to Watch Closely Now: A Forum of the Future (formerly known as Aspire). This forum showcases a selection of student essays emerging from various English, Literature and Humanities (ELH) courses I teach at RITK. For many of the contributors, the ELH courses are their first exposure to intellectually-driven literary analyses. Incorporating challenging literary, theoretical, and philosophical ideas from major thinkers over the epochs such at Kant, Freud, Nietzsche, Lacan, and Foucault amongst others, the essays demonstrate the students’ spirit of academic endeavor, their adventurism into the world of ideas, their willingness to experiment, and most of all their potential. We should watch them closely now as the future is in their hands. I hope you enjoy reading the essays.
