On November 14, 2018, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) held its third annual fundraising event at the Harvard Club in New York, USA. This fundraising event that called for “Supporting Kosova’s Next Success Story” was a great opportunity for the Albanian diaspora and other friends in United States to learn about RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), its mission, its outstanding student success, its impact in the country and how they can help RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) to continue offering an outstanding high-quality American education in Kosovo.

Over 80 supporters and friends of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) from USA and Kosovo participated in this event to show their support to RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) mission.

The distinguished guests were welcomed by RIT Kosovo’s (A.U.K) president, Dr. Sharon Hart as she presented the last year achievements of the institution.

The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Ronald Cami conveyed the deepest appreciation towards the Albanian community in the USA and the American Friends who have always shown their highest support and commitment towards this great cause – qualitative American education in Kosovo. Mr. Cami also welcomed to the stage the first chairman of the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Board of Trustees, US diplomat William G. Walker, the former head of an international monitoring mission in Kosovo.

Ambassador Walker recalled the first days when this great institution started in 2002. Ambassador Walker added “I am proud about of two things in Kosovo, one is what I was able to do to stop the violence against civilians in 1999, and the second is what I did and how I got involved and help to build this incredible institution, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)”.

About RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) mission is to deliver an outstanding American education for students from Kosovo and the world through innovative curricular, experiential, and research programs in a student-centered culture. Our students acquire expertise, knowledge, and values that prepare them to contribute to the global society.

It is the aim of the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Trustees that RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) programs be self-sufficient based on tuition fees, while raising money from outside contributors – grant-making bodies, corporations, and generous individuals – to support capital investments and to endow faculty positions and student scholarships.

It is this international financial support – plus generous support from RIT – that allows RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) to deliver a world-class RIT education in Kosovo at a greatly lower cost than the same education in the United States.

RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)’s legal structure is typical of an American private institution. There is no “owner” as would be the case for a for-profit company. All RIT Kosovo (A.U.K)’s funds must be reinvested in the university, its programs, and its students. It is not allowed, by law, to pay monies to outside parties (such as Trustees) except for actual goods and services received.

The college is managed and financially supported by a New York State non-profit trust, the A.U.K. Foundation (or A.U.K.F-New York). A.U.K.F-New York has a subsidiary in Kosovo, the A.U.K. Foundation (New York), registered in Prishtina as an International NGO, which delivers technical assistance to the RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) in the form of raising grants and donations and hiring American instructors.

The institution itself is a Kosovo non-profit trust. The Boards of Trustees of the New York and Kosovo entities are identical, and the financial statements of the New York and Kosovo entities are presented in consolidated form except where needed for legal reporting reasons. Both the New York and Kosovo entities have been recognized as having Public Benefit Status by the Government of Kosovo.

The A.U.K Foundation is recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. United States taxpayers may deduct contributions to the Foundation from their income taxes to the extent permitted by law.

The RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is a Kosovo NGO with Public Benefit Status, to which Kosovo citizens and business may make contributions and deduct them from their taxes to the extent permitted by law.
