The new lease agreement will enable RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) to grow program offerings and continue providing top quality American education in the Germia Campus
Prishtina, Kosovo – Today marks an important milestone for RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), as the lease for the Germia campus premises has been extended for 50 years, until 2068. This achievement is significant for further development of RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) as it will allow the institution to offer new degree programs and expand current curricula to meet the market needs of Kosovo and the region. As a first step, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) also plans to build a modern study commons – a collaborative learning space where students will study, collaborate, and exchange ideas. Additionally, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) plans to construct a recreational center and a student dormitory.
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Ron Cami expressed his gratitude to the Prishtina Municipal Assembly for the continued support for one of the most important academic institutions in Kosovo. Mr. Cami said that: “The Board of Trustees is very grateful and honored for the trust bestowed upon us by the people of Kosovo, members of the Municipal Assembly, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, the Government of Kosovo and the American government as represented by the US Embassy. We take this trust extremely seriously and are committed to deliver an outstanding American education for students from Kosovo and the world through innovative curricular, experiential, and research programs in a student-centered culture. Our students acquire expertise, knowledge, and values that prepare them to contribute to Kosovo and the global society. We are delighted that we will be able to continue doing this in our first-rate campus for at least the next 50 years”.
RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) is the only nonpublic, nonprofit higher education institution in Kosovo – where all classes are held entirely in English. It is also the only institution in Kosovo whose degrees are accredited and recognized worldwide thanks to the partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York. RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) students receive the same excellent American education and diplomas that students receive at RIT in Rochester, New York. In 2004, RIT Kosovo (A.U.K) moved to the Germia campus, on the premises of former Shkolla Normale, as a courtesy of generous support from the Municipality of Prishtina, Behgjet Pacolli Foundation, and Mabetex Group that rebuilt the two main buildings. Since then, thousands of young professionals, from over 20 different countries, have earned degrees from RIT Kosovo (A.U.K), with 95% of the graduates finding jobs immediately upon graduation in Kosovo and abroad and many of them continuing education at world-renowned universities.
“These are exciting times for our campus in Prishtina as we get ready to roll out new bachelor degree programs in the area of Computing and Information Technology and reinstate our Masters of Science in Professional Studies in the upcoming academic year. This 50-year lease will be an impetus for new developments in the future” said Dr. James Myers, the Associate Provost of International Education and Global Programs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York.
Classes for the Spring Semester 2019 have begun on January 21st, 2019 while application and enrollment information for Fall is accessible at www.kosovo.rit.edu.
